DEWA awards construction contract for Hassyan plant

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has recently awarded a contract for the supply, construction, installation and commission of a 400 kilovolt (kV) substation with related works, worth AED 197M, at the Hassyan clean coal power plant.
“This project supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 7% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2020. It will increase this target to 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050. DEWA is working to achieve the fifth pillar of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which focuses on creating an environmentally-friendly energy mix, with 25% coming from solar energy, 7% from nuclear power, 7% from clean coal, and 61% from gas by 2030, to make Dubai a global centre for clean energy and green economy. DEWA works to build world-class energy infrastructure that meets Dubai’s development demands. The main 400kV power transformer at Hassyan clean coal power plant is part of DEWA’s ongoing efforts to achieve its ambitious strategy and plans, to deliver the highest standards of availability, reliability and efficiency,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
The Hassyan clean coal power plant is based on the IPP model, and will generate 2,400 megawatts (MW). The plant will be fully operational by March 2023.
