France and India will most probably finalize an agreement on the construction of six EPR nuclear power reactors at Jaitapur in the state of Maharashtra before the end of 2016. On Monday, January 26th during the state visit of President Francois Hollanda of France to India a joint statement was put out by him and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that they encouraged their industrial companies to conclude techno-commercial negotiations by the end of 2016. At the same time, the leaders have agreed upon a joint plan of cooperation to speed up talks on the Jaitapur Project this year with the hope that implementation will be able to take place as soon as 2017.
