MAN Diesel & Turbo has recently been commissioned to supply three 18V 48/60TS engines to Bangladesh. The units will drive a new power station in the Munshiganj district, which will provide baseload capacity to the capital Dhaka.
The planned power station will have a capacity of 56.7 MW and will supply approximately 100,000 households in Dhaka with electricity. The country’s state-owned energy provider, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), will buy the electricity. The engines will be delivered in October 2016 and are expected to be commissioned in 2017. The MAN 18V48/60TS engine runs on heavy fuel oil and achieves particularly high energy density and high efficiencies due to its two-stage turbocharger.
