NHPC, BHEL sign R&M contract

NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company and a Mini Ratna Category-I Enterprise of the Government of India have recently signed a contract agreement for R&M (renovation and modernization) of 180 MW Baira Siul Power Station, Himachal Pradesh at New Delhi. Mr. K.M. Singh, CMD, NHPC and Mr. Atul Sobti, CMD, BHEL along with other senior officers from NHPC and BHEL were present during the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singh informed that Baira Siul was the first power station of NHPC since it began its journey towards becoming a hydro major in the country and has commissioned 21 power stations with total capacity of 6667 MW. He further added that BHEL has been NHPC’s long standing partner and 11 power stations of NHPC have BHEL machinery.
Baira Siul will be NHPC’s first power station where R&M works will be undertaken for purpose of life extension of the generating station. The scope of the Contract Agreement includes Electromechanical Works package comprising supply, erection, commissioning of turbines and accessories and dismantling of existing system. NHPC has awarded the work to BHEL at a total value of Rs 132.74 crore.
