In a major push to Namami Gange programme, National Mission for Clean Ganga has recently approved 26 projects at an estimated cost of Rs 2154.28Cr. This amount will be spent in the states of UP, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Delhi for creation of new sewage treatment capacity of 188 Million Litres per Day (MLD) (approx.), rehabilitation of 596 MLD of existing STP capacity, upgradation of 30 MLD of existing STP capacity, Interception and Diversion works and sewerage network of 145.05 km.
Name of the project town under the Creation of new STP capacity and I&D works include Haridwar (Jagjeetpur and Sarai), Joshimath, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Kirtinagar, Rishikesh, Muni Ki Reti, Chamoli, Gopeshwar, Badrinath, Srinagar, Nandprayag, Ramana, Varanasi, and Rajmahal.
Name of the project towns under the Rehabilitation of existing STP capacity include Jagjeetpur, Haridwar, Vrindavan and Okhla, Delhi.
Name of the project towns under the upgradation of existing STP capacity include Tapovan, Rishikesh, Uttarkashi, Sarai, Haridwar, Swargashram and Srinagar-Garhwal.
Name of the project towns under the I&D Works include Jagjeetpur, Zone A, B, C, D, E of Haridwar and Sarai, Zone F in Haridwar.
The total project cost will be around Rs. 116Cr.
Name of the project towns under the Sewerage Network include Karmalichak, Patna, Replacement of rising mains in Kondli and Rising main from Bharat Nagar to Pitampura.
The completion of these projects will help in reducing the pollution load on the river Ganga as discharge of untreated effluent is one of the major source of pollution in river Ganga.
